Indesign Server CC Trial issues

$

0

The installation instructions states

You need to download Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition (APTEE) for using the InDesign Server trial

The download link only refers to CS6, CS5.5 & CS5 not CC

Since there is no Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition for CC I decided just to install and run the trial.

However I got the Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit message.

According to the CC Release notes it says:

InDesign CC Server needs to be activated before it can be used. If the computer is online, activation is done automatically when you install. You need to provide your Adobe ID, and serial number when prompted by the installer. Unless the software is activated, you'll see an error, "Adobe InDesign Server’ is not properly licensed and will now quit."

My computer was online yet the it seems it didn't perfom the automatic activation as it suggests. When I entered my AdobeID credentials I did not get any errors saying it could not connect online.

So I had to do something and decided to use the Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition for CS6.

This allowed me to get pass the licensing issue.

The next problem was I was getting DDE Server Window:InDesignServer.exe System Error popup. Telling me The program can't start because svml_dispmd.dll is missing from your computer.

So after browsing the net to see where I can get this missing svml_dispmd.dll I found this post http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/topic/285859

and decided to install what it suggested.

I still got the missing dll error so I copied it from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\Shared Libraries\redist\intel64\compiler into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC Server x64

Now it just sits there and hangs at the same spot

11/28/13 08:09:08 INFO  [javascript] Executing File: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC Server x64\Scripts\converturltohyperlink\ConvertURLToHyperlinkMenuItem.jsxbin

What the heck is going on here?

I have installed Indesign Server CC on another machine and although I did not get the missing dll problem it still however hangs at the same spot mentioned above.

Could someone from Adobe please help. The already I'm losing days with this trial and I will have little days left to test this product.

Hello,

I have the Indesign Server CS6 Multi Instance. I create an instance using the InDesign Server Windows Service:
Port: 12000
Args: -configuration myconfig1

Now I tried in Visual Basic: GetObject("myconfig1")
Then I get a can't create ActiveX component exception.

Notes:
The service "InDesignServerService x64" is running.
The InDesign Server instance was started.
I can access the instance via SOAP: http://localhost:12000/

Why can I not create the object in Visual Basic?

Thank you for help!

importing xml via xsl for rich text formating

$

0

Hi everyone. I've been looking for days now about a way to export the content of a website as XML and import it then into InDesign, involving some basic text formatting and maybe links, lists and tables. Getting a XML version of a website isn't actually the problem. But including some InDesign readable formatting structure caused me some headache.

First of all, I used InDesign from CS2 and read a lot about INX structure, XML Namespaces and Tagged Text. None of what I did seemed to result in any acceptable or properly working import. So I've read about CS3 having a new feature of applying XSL Stylesheets when importing a XML file and finally downloaded a trial version to test this out. Problem is, I can't find any helpful documentation on how to use this feature right. Neither in the web nor in your forums.

So how does a XSL file have to look like in order to import XML with some basic formatting?

Let's say the XML looks like this, very simple:

] <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
] <?xsl-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="style.xsl"?>

] <root>
] <text>
] This text is bold and this seems to be italic.
] </text>
] <underline>I'm under the line</underline>
] </root>

How does my XSLT code in "style.xsl" have to look like in order to tell InDesign that the content of has to be bold, the one of italic and leaving <underline> underlined?

IDML to PDF using Java API

$

Hi,

   I have created an IDML with template through the Indesign GUI and have created the respective XML files(story,designmap,etc) and able to make the changes in it and display that in the UI. This is fine, my requirement is to use the Java API to pass the .idml file (which holds the template) and creates a .PDF out of this. I am unable to get any source code samples for this, this should be done through Java API and no scripting is allowed. I went through the IDML spec, but doesn't have any source code samples for the requirement. Hence, please do provide the source code samples to achieve this using Java API. Expecting positive response...

InDesign Server command-line flags

How can I get command-line flags list of InDesign Server?

Actually the situation is testclient doesn't work.
I installed InDesign Server and SDK.
I run InDesignServer.com then I use something like this "testclient -server t.js".
Server and client runs on same comp.
As result I have this exception:
SOAP FAULT: SOAP-ENV:Client
"Unknown error"
Detail: TCP connect failed in tcp_connect()

in SDK indesign-server-test-client.pdf I found:
"Using InDesign Server
In order to use the test client, you must have a machine that has InDesign Server installed and
running properly, as the test client will communicate with the InDesign Server application.
For instructions on running and terminating InDesign Server, including command-line flags,
please refer to the InDesign Server Installation and Configuration Guide."

Any suggestion?

SSL and indesign server - soap communications.

Does anyone know if (and how) you could use SSL to talk to indesign server using soap.  The gSoap library (that I believe indesign server uses) has some support but needs compiling to include it, so I'm assuming it isn't included but would like to know for sure.

Thanks

Indesign CS3 Server crashes while running a script

Hi,

      I have a javascript .jsx which reads an XML which has the image urls in it.. It places that in an INDD document and then exports them into a pdf file...

There are 10 instances created for the InDesign server since it is run as a service.... The issue that i am facing here is that the INDD document is saved properly, but the export into a PDF hangs the thread and the service in turn...The XML is imported into a template .indt and then saved as an INDD which then exports the pdf...

I get an error dump in the install folder which basically prints out the following

Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION

I have no clue about why it happens in this fashion... I have a similar script which runs absolutely fine and there is very minimal difference in the two....

InDesign CS4 Server serialisation

$

Hi guys,

I'm installing a InDesign CS4 Server on Windows 2003 Server for Small Business Server, Service Pack 2. 4Gb available on C:drive,Intel Xeon 3.2Ghz, 4Gb Ram

The machine had InDesign CS3 Server installed previously.

1. Uninstalled InDesign CS3 Server

2. Rebooted Machine.

3. Installed CS4 Server

4. Installed latest Rapid Release

5. Setup Win Service

and wondered why I wasn't prompted for the serial number at start of install. (ok, I hear you... should have read the read-me file first to see if anything in the installation process had changed...).

So I stopped the ID-Service and then ran the command-line serialisation at this point.

Checked in TaskManager no ID Server was running.

However the serialisation hangs after:

<pre>

08/26/09 10:15:05 INFO  [server] Server Runnin/g

</pre>

And the serialisation process seems to launch two processes at this stage: InDesignServer.com and InDesignServer.exe.

Which is right before this step... which is repeated twice and then the cursor just sits there... (doing nothing).

<pre>

[javascript] Executing File: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adob
e InDesign CS4 Server\Scripts\Export As XHTML\XHTMLExportMenuItem.jsxbin

</pre>

Before back-tracking fully and doing a complete uninstall and reinstall (and this time serialising after step 3), I thought I'd check if anyone had come across this and has a possible clue as to what's going in.  Any help appreciated.

At this stage I'm scheduling a full uninstall/reinstall for Thursday if things aren't resolved today (Wednesday).

Thanks,

InDesignServer Service not starting on Windows Server 2003 (32bit & 64 bit)

Note: this issue is different from this thread on a similar issue.

This problem has plagued me for weeks and I finally give up. InDesign Server installs successfully and the InDesignServerService starts, but the server does not run. I can only run the server from the command line. I've followed these installation instructions but run into the following problems:

1. installing by the command line: InDesignServerService /install fails and produces the following error log:

Installing service InDesignServerService...

Creating EventLog source InDesignServerService in log Application...

Rolling back assembly 'E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.exe'.

Affected parameters are:

   logtoconsole =

   assemblypath = E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.exe

   logfile = E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.InstallLog

Restoring event log to previous state for source InDesignServerService.

2. I cannot install or load the snap-in to MMC. When I try to install regsvr32 InDesignServerMMC.dll it cannot be found (as it's not in the InDesign Server directory). However InDesignServerMMC64.dll is in there and I was able to load the snap-in using regsvr32 InDesignServerMMC.dll, but the server still only runs when being started from the command line.

As I mentioned, InDesign Server runs fine when I have an active command line window open and run InDesignServer, but the moment I close the command line window, the server shuts down. Any ideas?

[CS5 Windows] LBQ crashes Java

$

Hi all,

I'm trying to follow the instructions in the "Working With Load Balancing and Queueing" document for CS5 server. I've run four instances of ID Server using the recommended CORBA parameters in that document. Then I started LBQ by running the "clover.cmd" batch file (after tweaking it a bit, because they forgot to set the JAVA_HOME path). All seems well.

However, when I ping the LBQ as recommended, by opening this URL:

http://localhost:8080/com.adobe.clover.application/api/GetVersion

I get a message that Java has crashed. Specifically, it says "Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working." Then Windows helpfully offers to find a solution (I've never actually experienced Windows finding a solution, ever). Of course then the browser request times out, and we're back to using QuarkXPress.

This is using Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, Service Pack 1 (say that fast, 3 times), and InDesign CS5 Server 7.0.0.355.

I thought perhaps the Java version was suspect, so I uninstalled it (both 32- and 64-bit versions) and installed fresh versions from www.java.com. Still the same problem. Then I thought, maybe it needs more memory, so I changed the command line -Xmx parameter from 512M to 1024M. Still the same problem.

The problem isn't InDesign Server, because it never actually gets to that point; it's in the LBQ Java code (I think) and/or some mystical Java configuration.

So I'm stumped. Has anyone successfully used Adobe's load balancing solution as documented?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Chuck Weger

My firm could use some experienced assistance with an InDesign Server development project. In particular we need to generate output dynamically from text and graphical content provided by non-designer end users, and let that content flow into well designed document templates, producing a variable number of boxes, columns, and pages. Does anyone know of a well of talent from which to draw on a freelance / consulting basis for this kind of development work?

InDesign Server CC Mac problem licensing

Hi all.

I'm trying toactivateInDesign ServerCCbutI am havinga lot of problems.

- MacOSX 1.8.5 Server.

- Adobeindesignserver 9.2 Debug 1_23

First of all, the package contains just a folder, not an installer.

So I suppose all I have to do is copy the content in the Applications folder.

In the folder I found tree different executable files:

InDesignServer.app

InDesignServer.command

indesignserverconsole.command

I tried toactivateInDesignwithall the methodslistedhere:

http://helpx.adobe.com/it/indesign/release-note/indesign-server-cc-release-notes.html#Requ isiti%20minimi%20di%20sistema

adobe_prtk --tool=StartTrial --leid=InDesignServer-CS7-Mac-GM

adobe_prtk --tool=Serialize --leid=InDesignServer-CS7-Mac-GM --serial=<MySerial> --adobeid=<MyID>

adobe_prtk --tool=Type1Exception --accept --serial=<MySerial>--responsecode=<MyResponseCode> --leid=InDesignServer-CS7-Mac-GM

All attemptsended with: ReturnCode = 0 but InDesign still do not start.

The error is always the same:

"Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit"

On this server is installed also IDServer CS5, can it be aproblem?

I hope someone can halp me.

thanks Ivan.

CMYK: Preserve numbers (ignore linked profiles)

updating internal links crashes IDS

$

Hi,

The relevant flow is that a indd document is passed to the Indesign Server where I have to try and update outdated links before exporting to PDF.

This in Windows (7, server, doesn't matter)

For each link in the document, I am trying to do this (javascript)

if (link.status == LinkStatus.linkOutOfDate) {

    try{

      link.update();

    }

    catch(error){

      app.consoleout("Error trying to update links ...");

      app.consoleout(error);

    }

}

The indesign client is able to update the links fine.

Problem is if the links are internal, meaning link.linkType is "type Internal Linked Story" or "type Internal Linked Object", the script above crashes the indesign server instance with the following.

Faulting application name: InDesignServer.exe, version: 9.0.0.245, time stamp: 0x51acf1d4

Faulting module name: GENERIC PAGE ITEM.RPLN, version: 9.0.0.245, time stamp: 0x51acf472

Am I doing something wrong with the link.update? It works fine for external links.

How can I check whether particular port is running without "crash or not-response"? So that, I can notify this by automatically, and send the job to another port.
