I have use InDesignServer to convert indd files to pdf with the help of LBQ feature of IDS.
But at first, the memory of each instance cost 90-150Mb, after a lots of test of converting yesterday, I find it costs up to 1.2 GB for each instance while starting up, CPU usage of each instaces can up to 25%!!!!
What's the problem? I restarted the computer and reinstall the IDS, but it still costs about 1.2 GB for each IDS instance.
Can anyone tell me what happened?

Running InDesign Server with a front-end that takes imported IDML files and creates a print ready .pdf. Something I noticed is that sometimes a font is missing and I get the error message from InDesign server about this. It doesn't affect the .pdf output (except for the missing font but it substitutes it). Is there a way that when an IDML file is imported that the fonts are passed to the InDesign server to process? Or do I have to install all the fonts on the server instead?
Just trying to figure out what's the best way to do this.

I have configured the logs to be written to the Windows EventLogs using the command -LogToApplicationEventLog while starting InDesign server instance. But is it possible to provide a log file location from where I can read the logs programatically?

so right now on my windows server which is 2008 r2 I have the following installed
I am trying to get InDesign CC Server 2014 trial activated and here is what I have done so far
So I got the error that it is not properly licensed so next I ran the command from the Adobe Manager Directory : adobe_prtk --tool=StartTrial --leid=V7{}InDesignServer-10-Win-GM
Now I got a successful StartTrial indicator, so I will go back and try again
I am confused at this point? I got the right return code for successful, but yet its not licensed properly?
Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding this? or maybe I am missing something and doing something incorrectly somewhere?

We are running multiple instances of Indesign server service. But for all the instances Logs are coming into single file. Is it possible to separe the logs for each instance of server.
It will be great help for analysing each server request. If possible please let us know.

I have installed the trial version of InDesign Server CS6 on Windows 2008 and am trying to run scripts against it using the ExtendScript Toolkit, but it is not working. When I select "Adobe InDesign CS6 Server" from the drop-down list in the upper left, I get an alert box that says "Cannot launch target Adobe InDesign CS6 Server!". When expanding the details box it just repeats that same message.
I can start InDesign fine using either the command line or the windows service and it responds to requests. As far as I can see, it is just ExtendScript that is having problems with it.
I have combed through the event logs and can't find anything there indicating what the problem might be. I have also googled everything I can think of looking for a solution with no luck.
Has anyone else run into this? Any suggestions on a solution or at least where I might be able to track down a useful error message that says why it can't launch InDesign?

I working a project that we receive artwork(idml file + fonts) and we have to generate pdf files.
I need to "load" and "unload" fonts from indesign context. Right now I´m copying them (to indesign´s font´s folder) before pdfs´ generation, but when i need to remove it, I can´t.. Indesign locked it.
It´s there anyway to release this fonts? Is It possible to load it from another folder besides "indesign fonts´folder"

When you start multiple instances of InDesign Servers you specify the different configuration names.
Is it possible that 2 instances of InDesign Servers running on the same server with different configuration names have different fonts installed?
I.e. can I install some fonts of configuration level, not for the entire server?

Currently we are using the LBQ (load balancing) to queue up scripts to be run on our instances in IDS. After the scipt is run, we're trying to (within our .NET code) delete the script file. This works most of the time, but every once in a while we get an IO exception stating that "the file cannot be deleted because it is in use." I've run several tests and narrowed it down to being directly related to IDS executing the script, but thats about as far as I've gotten.
One idea that came up was to see if IDS could possible open up a copy of the script file and execute it (whether that be an option of the LBQ EnqueueJob() method, or a configuration setting on the server itself). I know that from within a script you can open up other files "as copies" but I wasn't sure if IDS had a similar ability. This would be nice because it wouldn't have to open the physical script file, thus we'd never have any trouble deleting it.
Has anyone ever done anything like this or know of something similar we could try?

I'm using Adobe In-Design Server CS4. And I'm accessing it via the Java SDK API interface.
While attempting to export my story to Rich Text Format (RTF), the images are getting left out.
Yet, taking the exact same .idml file, opening it inside the desktop In-Design App, clicking inside the story, selecting "Export" & choosing "RTF", gives me a .rtf file that includes the images.
Am I missing some setting somewhere in the SDK that I have to expliciately state I want images? Or do I need to do my export off something other than the Story object?
I know the images are valid, as not only does the export to RTF via the desktop application work, but through the SDK API, I can Export to PDF & the pdf includes the images. So the image files are valid.
Here's a code snippet. Note the "closeDocument" method simply invokes the typical doc.close method with some custom exception handling.

We have a library of logos created in Indesign. These are files that our Indesign Server CS4 uses to render logos for our customers. They have a choice of rendering a jpeg or eps, however even though they are rendered from the same Indesign file the eps version looks as if the elements are misaligned (see attached file). My suspicion is that because the text is converted to outline for the eps (and not the jpeg), that this making the text wider and it is growing to the right causing the misaligned look. Is there any resource to look through regarding Indesign server converting text to outline? Something I can send to our CTO?

I need the very simple functionality in my application to convert an idml file to image. I will have access to InDesign Server through SOAP but am having trouble understanding the process for actually doing this.
I have not used SOAP services in forever, and even then only for a few simple things so can someone explain the process to me?
From digging through the dozens of scattered pdfs it seems like the process has something to do with passing a javascript script to the server which will then execute against the InDesign API.
The closest thing I can find to a published script API is the InDesign Scripting Guide pdf (by the way Adobe, I know you love pdfs, but it is an awful format for documentation, these sort of documents is actually what HTML was invented for - use it pretty please?)
However, this only seems to discuss the api that is available from within InDesign. I am scripting InDesign server and it seems to be somewhat different, for example activeDocument is not actually a property on app. Is this API actually published anywhere?

I am trying the new multi threads feature from IDS CS6 (contra using multiple instances).
But I seem unable to start several sessions from the same client.
I do have a machine with 4 core processors (even a multi-instances license), so I should be able to start 4 sessions in parallel.
I start a single IDS instance with SOAP on port 12345.
Using SoapUI:
- I make a call to "BeginSession": it returns successfully (for example sessionID 2)
- If I make a second call to "BeginSession", it returns a SOAP fault telling me that the call is already part of a session...
- If I make a third call, it returns successfully (sessionID 3)
- And so on, every second call will fail
- Furthermore, it seems that the failing call triggers the end of the previous session, because I am unable to call EndSession after that. It would explain why every second call will succeed.
- if I call BeginSession, then EndSession, BeginSession, EndSession... it works without problem.
I also tried using two different clients running from two different computers, against the same InDesign Server:
- Call BeginSession from client 1: success
- Call BeginSession from client 2: success
- Call EndSession from client 1: success
- Call EndSession from client 2: success
- If a client tries to open a two sessions in a row (without callind EndSession on the first one), it fails as I described in the first case above.
- If a client tries to close the session opened by the other client, I get a SOAP fault too.
So in conclusion, are we limited to open only one session per client???
Does IDS CS6 retain information on which client opened which session, and then ensure to have a maximum of one session per client?
This is a big problem, as I want a unique controller opening the sessions and running all server script calls... It should definitely need to open several sessions in parallel, else there would be no point in using multi-sessions instead of multi-instances.

Hi Folks,
A number of developers at my firm have tried using the debug version of InDesign Server CS6, but find they cannot run it with the following error:
ERROR [server] Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit.
In each case the installer ran correctly and a valid serial number for debug CS6 used (from the Adobe Partners site).
We have no problems with the release version of CS6 server, or CS5/CS5.5 debug/release versions.
Has anyone suffered the same problem?

I need to generate a SWF file that will be converted into EXE and recorded a CD. When I run the EXE file on the CD takes it to appear in full screen. I can not do this in InDesign. The file is generated, but when I run is converted not appear in full screen. Only appears if I give the command CTRL F.
