Memory purge

When InDesignServer (CS3) is continuously running for a couple of days on our test server, we get the following output messages: (every few minutes)

WARN  [server] Memory Purge: 889 MB available, 670 MB physical, 244 MB available physical bytes

From this point IDServer is also very slow.

Can someone explain? Does it mean that there's not enough memory available? It seems odd that this can happen because every script always closes the InDesign files before completion..

Thanks in advance.

Clarification on InDesign Activation (trial)

so right now on my windows server which is 2008 r2 I have the following installed

Captur00e.PNG

I am trying to get InDesign CC Server 2014 trial activated and here is what I have done so far

Captur00e.PNG

So I got the error that it is not properly licensed so next I ran the command from the Adobe Manager Directory : adobe_prtk --tool=StartTrial --leid=V7{}InDesignServer-10-Win-GM

Captur00e.PNG

Captur00e.PNG

Now I got a successful StartTrial indicator, so I will go back and try again

Captur00e.PNG

I am confused at this point? I got the right return code for successful, but yet its not licensed properly?

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding this? or maybe I am missing something and doing something incorrectly somewhere?

Printing to PostScript - Clean7Bit or Binary

$

When we "print" an .indd document to PostScript using InDesign CS3 (desktop version), the resulting file's DataDefinition is always set to Clean7Bit. However, when we call the Java InDesign Server API (using InDesign Server CS3) to print to PostScript, the resulting file is either Clean7Bit or Binary. It is not consistent. Is there a value we can set to always guarantee the resulting file is Clean7Bit?

Thanks for your help!

Image proxies are not saved.

Hi,

We have an application that uses indesign scripting to generate indd documents.

Before we used indesign client with the scripts. When we saved the documents, someone could open the document, and the images would show up as proxies.

Since we've moved to indesign server, the previews are gray.

I've tried various things to try and enable server to store the proxies in the documents, but I wasn't able to get it to work.

If the client changes the display performance to highest quality, the originals are rendered. Normal doesn't work (gray).

What can we do to make the proxies work?

Exported PDF files do show up with the images, so the links are ok..

InDesignServer Service not starting on Windows Server 2003 (32bit & 64 bit)

Note: this issue is different from this thread on a similar issue.

This problem has plagued me for weeks and I finally give up. InDesign Server installs successfully and the InDesignServerService starts, but the server does not run. I can only run the server from the command line. I've followed these installation instructions but run into the following problems:

1. installing by the command line: InDesignServerService /install fails and produces the following error log:

Installing service InDesignServerService...

Creating EventLog source InDesignServerService in log Application...

Rolling back assembly 'E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.exe'.

Affected parameters are:

   logtoconsole =

   assemblypath = E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.exe

   logfile = E:\Program Files\Adobe InDesign CS4 Server\InDesignServerService.InstallLog

Restoring event log to previous state for source InDesignServerService.

2. I cannot install or load the snap-in to MMC. When I try to install regsvr32 InDesignServerMMC.dll it cannot be found (as it's not in the InDesign Server directory). However InDesignServerMMC64.dll is in there and I was able to load the snap-in using regsvr32 InDesignServerMMC.dll, but the server still only runs when being started from the command line.

As I mentioned, InDesign Server runs fine when I have an active command line window open and run InDesignServer, but the moment I close the command line window, the server shuts down. Any ideas?

Fonts not being recognized by ID server

Hi Experts,

We are having terrific inconsistent behaviour with Indesign server.

Currently we have an set of Indesign servers instances(k1-k13) running on one windows server machine managed by one LBQ.All of them

share the same set of plugins and same environment including the Fonts folder and the Fonts link present in it

we find that inconsistent results are coming up for fonts in the same Indesign File on the same machine but with different instances

of Indesign server.

On furthur investigation we found that this is something specific to one instance K8 running. It doesn't recognize the font Aria

lMTBoldLE but say for another instance on the same machine like K6 the same font is being recognized. The same instance K8 seems to not recognize the other f

onts also.

We are unable to find out inspite lots of googling also. Any advise on this will be welcomed.

Thanks,

How to start Debug server? No Redistributables?

$

Hi everyone,

Having issues with trying to run a Debug server for development testing. The server is not on the same dev box as Visual Studio, etc. It's a standalone W2008R2 box. I have the Debug version installed for testing but when trying to run it I get the 'side-by-side configuration error'.

Did a quick search and just installed the 2005 C++ redistributables but still no go.

So how can I get this Debug server up and running so we can develop against it without using our Production license?

There is zero Adobe documentation on this that I have found and quite frustrating for sure.

Edit:

I did a sxstrace and here are the results:

On the same server I have the Release version of 5.5 and it starts up with no issue. What's the point of the Debug/Developer version if it doesn't start? Do I need to reach out to my Adobe rep for answers on this?

Thanks for any help/tips/pointers.

Failed to export the JPEG file: Maximum size exceeded

$

When exporting a page to JPEG you might get the following error message:

"Failed to export the JPEG file: Maximum size exceeded. Try decreasing the resolution."

After some research I believe this maximum size for the resulting JPEG is set to 32767 pixels. This is the maximum value of a signed short.

Anyone can verify if this is correct?

Another similar error message you might get is:

"Failed to export the JPEG file: Not enough memory. Try decreasing the resolution."

I would like to know how this limit is calculated.

Test case:

InDesign document of 2000 mm x 2000 mm

    Export JPEG, format method 'BASELINE', dpi 416

          -> result preview of 32756 pixels     (2000 mm = 78,740157 inch * 416 dpi = 32756 pixels)

          => preview is exported

     Export JPEG, format method 'BASELINE', dpi 417

          -> "Failed to export the JPEG file: Maximum size exceeded. Try decreasing the resolution."

          => max size exceeded

     Export JPEG, format method 'PROGRESSIVE', dpi 416

          -> "Failed to export the JPEG file: Not enough memory. Try decreasing the resolution."

          => Within the max size boundaries, but not within the max memory boundaries. How is this calculated?

     Export JPEG, format method 'PROGRESSIVE', dpi 225

          -> "Failed to export the JPEG file: Not enough memory. Try decreasing the resolution."

          => Within the max size boundaries, but not within the max memory boundaries. How is this calculated?

     Export JPEG, format method 'PROGRESSIVE', dpi 224

          => preview is exported

I am facing difficulties activating InDesign CS6 server

I'd like to share with you my frustration about InDesign CS6 Server which tries to do the very same as shown above, but apparenty noone at Adobe did think about the fact that ID Server has NO GUI. So as a customer youre left with an Installation that provides NO means for later offline activation, but provides the very same link at installation, basically guiding you through a process that can not be accomplished with ID Server by any means.

Moreover, the Installer claims there is a 7-day grace period until you MUST have activated your license but even with entering a valid code the Server wont start from second ONE, stating "Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit". This sort of misdesign is what makes customers furious! And then they wonder why people use circumvention technologies.

SWF full screen mode

I need to generate a SWF file that will be converted into EXE and recorded a CD. When I run the EXE file on the CD takes it to appear in full screen. I can not do this in InDesign. The file is generated, but when I run is converted not appear in full screen. Only appears if I give the command CTRL F.

BridgeTalk in indesign Server

I'm using InDesign Server for CS6 (x64). I'm using bridgetalk for the first time on my local machine. I am trying to understand why I'm getting the error "ERROR: Target Could Not Be Launched". Does this mean my bridge isn't working? Or does the syntax appear wrong for the following example code:

function infoFrombr() {

   var bt = new BridgeTalk;

   bt.target = "bridge";

   bt.body = "app.document.presentationPath;"

   bt.onResult = function(resObj) {

      var myResult = resObj.body;

      $.writeln( "BridgeTalk result = " + myResult );

      doSomethingNow( myResult );

   }

   bt.onError = function( inBT ) { doSomethingNow( inBT.body, null ); };

   $.writeln("doing it");

   bt.send( 50 );

}

function doSomethingNow( result ) {

      $.writeln("doing it");

      $.writeln(result);

}

$.writeln("test");

infoFrombr();

$.writeln("test_end");

Hide cmd windows after running LBS bat file

Hi,

Now I am working on a solution of converting indd file to pdf on server side in our product.

Since this process may cost time I choose LBS with job queue, but after running "startup-indesign-server-CORBA-4instances.bat" there four cmd windows will popup to listen to request.

What I want is that can I hide these window after they started? I don't want customers to close this windows for their careless.

I have tried to write a .vbs script to hide the cmd window but failed.

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks

Getting unable to snap in error when trying to run indesign server as service

$

Hi,

I am trying to get the indesign server cs5 as a service to run at a particular port on 64bit windows vm platform. The documentation pointed towards trying to operate the .msc file in <installation_folder>/adobe/indesign x64/ folder.  However I am getting a snap-in error. I have tried installing it through mmc.exe, but fails with the same error. It is a trial version right now.

The error reads

"MMC could not create a snap in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly.

Name: IndesignServerService

CLSI ID:{xxxxxxxxxxxxx}

"

I have uninstalled, reinstalled and restarted many times.

Any info will be helpful. I am wondering if all the dlls have been registered correctly.

Thanks

Ravi
