We have installed Indesign CC Server 2014 Debug on a 2008 R2 Windows Server for testing. This is the version we were told we had to use in a development environment. The installation went smoothly, however, when I try t

start the service with SOAP enabled (InDesignServer -port 12345) I get the following attached error. Actually I get the error anytime I try to start the service from the command prompt with or without the -port parameter. The service will start from Windows Service Manager, however, I does not seem to take the -port parameter in the options dialog.

Numerous InDesign server crashes

We use InDesign Server CC 2014 (10.2.0.69) running on a Windows Server 2012 R2. We encounter a LOT of crashes and the crash reports refer mostly (99% of the events) to ntdll.dll as the faulting module, the other ones are MSVCR110.dll or StackHash.

What we tried: deactivate antivirus and running InDesign Server as Administrator. No luck.

 

Does it sound familiar to anyone?

Stuck parsing an InDesign document, extracting data to an XML file

Hi,

 

I have an indesign document of a newspaper page (1 spread + 1 page) with some articles (title, body, img, img caption) and ads (img). I need to parse this and create an XML file from which data can be stored into a mysql db. The db handling is already programmed.

 

The xml file will have this structure (page = root):

<page>

     <article>

          <title>Title</title>

          <content>Lorem ipsum</content>

          <img title=""></img>

     </article>

     <ad>

          <img title=""></img>

     </ad>

</page>

 

The .indd file is created using the Smart Layout plugin from WoodWing software. When trying to print the "TextFrames>Texts>contents" the textframes that use the smart layout plugin do not show, they seem to be not included in the data model of the app. That's why I went another route, and parsed "Stories>Texts>contents". I can get all the text objects of the page, including the articles that are created using the smart layout plugin. Among these objects are article title's and article bodies. The problem is I don't know which title belongs to which body, so I can't create a new article node in the XML. I have exported the orignal file as IDML and browsed the spread and the stories, but I see no way to link article titles (textframe), article bodies (textframe) and images (contained by rectangles) together.

 

Is there a way to solve this?

 

Setup:

InDesign CS4 .indd documents

Win2k8 server

JavaScript (via ExtendScript toolkit)

InDesignServer CS5.5 (64bit) (want to use this)

SmartLayout plugin (installs @ InDesignServer CS5.5 32bit. This 32bit InDServer does not start, it has missing dll's).

Need help executing jsx in InDesign Server

Hi All,

 

I have written a javascript and indd template to convert my data in xml to pdf in InDesign. Now I want to use this javascript and indd template in InDesign Server. I have removed all GUI related thing in my script so that it doesnt need any GUI input. I am having a problem using SOAP implementation for this.

 

Can any one guide me how can i call this script in InDesign Server. I've tried sample client given in InDesign Products SDK and it is giving me error executing this javascript.

 

Any help in this issue will be highly appreciated.

Indesign Server CC Trial issues

The installation instructions states

 

You need to download Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition (APTEE) for using the InDesign Server trial

 

The download link only refers to CS6, CS5.5 & CS5 not CC

Since there is no Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition for CC I decided just to install and run the trial.

 

However I got the Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit message.

According to the CC Release notes it says:

 

InDesign CC Server needs to be activated before it can be used. If the computer is online, activation is done automatically when you install. You need to provide your Adobe ID, and serial number when prompted by the installer. Unless the software is activated, you'll see an error, "Adobe InDesign Server’ is not properly licensed and will now quit."

 

My computer was online yet the it seems it didn't perfom the automatic activation as it suggests. When I entered my AdobeID credentials I did not get any errors saying it could not connect online.

 

So I had to do something and decided to use the Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition for CS6.

This allowed me to get pass the licensing issue.

 

The next problem was I was getting DDE Server Window:InDesignServer.exe System Error popup. Telling me The program can't start because svml_dispmd.dll is missing from your computer.

So after browsing the net to see where I can get this missing svml_dispmd.dll I found this post http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/topic/285859

and decided to install what it suggested.

I still got the missing dll error so I copied it from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\Shared Libraries\redist\intel64\compiler into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC Server x64

 

Now it just sits there and hangs at the same spot

I have installed Indesign Server CC on another machine and although I did not get the missing dll problem it still however hangs at the same spot mentioned above.

Could someone from Adobe please help. The already I'm losing days with this trial and I will have little days left to test this product.

Installation issue on Mac

Hi,

 

I tried to install Indesign Server CC 2014 on my Macbook Pro, but the install fails showing message "Erforderliche Komponenten sind deaktiviert" (english translation: Required components are deactivated).

The Macbook is running MacOSX 10.10.5 and Adobe Creative Cloud 2015 including Adobe Indesign is installed on the machine.

IDS CC2015 on Mac OS : Segmentation fault using compiled script

Hi all,

 

I am working on a project including IDS CC 2015 on a Mac. If I use uncompiled version of the script, it just works fine. Once I compile the code, I get a segmentation fault error and the server crashes. On prior versions this compiled code works fine.

 

Had anyone already faced that issue ? Any hint on how to prevent it ?

InDesign Server crashing on hyperlinks - HYPERLINKS.RPLN

When trying to access properties of a hyperlink it causes InDesign to crash. I can assign properties of the hyperlink but if I try and retrieve properties it hangs and crashes resulting in the error below. I'm using InDesign Server 64bit version 7.0.4.553. What's interesting is this works completely fine when testing using InDesign CS5 client version.

 

I have used Extend script toolkit to try and debug the issue but you can't even use the databrowser to look at the hyperlink properties as it'll crash there as well. But if I debug using toolkit with client version of InDesign it works fine. It really seems like an issue with InDesign Server and I'm not sure what I can do to work around/fix this problem.

InDesign CC Server - ESTK Cannot Interact

I'm running Windows Server 2008R2 (64-bit) and I'm having a huge issue getting scripts to run from ESTK to InDesign CC Server. I've got InDesign CC (Desktop) installed as well. Both versions are fully updated as of today. Can you please help me fix this? When I try to run a script using ESTK targeting InDesing CC Server from the same computer, it sits there with a message box saying "Waiting; press ESC to abort..." It appears that it's not able to communicate with the process (InDesignServer.com, which is running at the time) at all, and I'd love a little help debugging this.

How to get CORBA LBQ started as a Windows service for InDesign Server CS6?

So we have a production InDesign Server (CS6) running 4 instances. The instances are set to start as Windows services and no issues there at all. The problem is my Clover commands that handles the LBQ to manage those instances. Right now I have a .bat file that I run manually and it opens a command prompt and runs it there.

 

The problem is that if the server gets logged off or reboots then that Clover part dies and my LBQ dies with it.

 

How can I go about setting this up as a Windows service so that it runs automatically?

retrieve InDesign server warnings

Hi,

 

I am using InDesign Server via its exposed web service to convert an indesign file to PDF.

If there are missing fonts or outdated/missing links, the indesign server console will print out warnings.

Example:

11:21:15 WARN  [font manager] Missing Font TT Slug OTF

 

The problem I have is that the WS API call does not return these warnings, as far as I can tell. It just converts the PDF using replacement fonts.

 

Is there a way for me to get this warning information back from the server or doing a preflight is the only way ?

Import Excel with charts and keep text content

I'm developing solution based on InDesign Server and need to import excel document containing chart and text content to InDesign doc.

I haven't found any way to import it and still have a capability to work with text content. Most threads suggest two practice:

     1. export document to pdf/eps and import

     2. copy\paste chart using the clipboard alone from the other content

Neither way is sutable for me.

Is there any solution, from indesign or third-party, that allows me to import excel file with text content and keep charts available for high-resolution printing. I.e. charts could be vector images or high-quality raster.

Complication is I need it in script for InDesign Server without any clipboard or selection. Also, Office COM-model isn't suitable because of server and multi-thread limitations.

Can't create object for multi instance when using GetObject("myconfig1")

Hello,

 

I have the Indesign Server CS6 Multi Instance. I create an instance using the InDesign Server Windows Service:
Port: 12000
Args: -configuration myconfig1

 

Now I tried in Visual Basic: GetObject("myconfig1")
Then I get a can't create ActiveX component exception.

 

Notes:
The service "InDesignServerService x64" is running.
The InDesign Server instance was started.
I can access the instance via SOAP: http://localhost:12000/

 

Why can I not create the object in Visual Basic?

InDesign Server CC - AppleScript - activate document

We have an issue to run our AppleScripts with the CC version. It seems that something has changed regarding how to activate ("talk to") a document in InDesign Server CC.

This script changes the behaviour of printing inks in ink manager. With CS5, it runs, with CC i got an error.

 

tell application "Adobe InDesign Server"

   

    activate

   

    set myDocument to document 1

   

    tell myDocument

       

        set docInks to inks

       

        repeat with x from 1 to count docInks

           

            if is process ink of item x of docInks is false then

               

                set convert to process of item x of docInks to true

I assume the line

set myDocument to document 1

works no longer.

Which is the right expression?

InDesign Server CS6 (MacOS) - JavaScripting & Troubleshooting "Bus error" or "Segmentation fault"

I'm attempting to convert a workflow from InDesign CS5.5 Desktop with AppleScript to InDesign Server CS6 with JavaScript. It seems most of our templates work fine but every now and then I run into one that seems to work properly but right after we export to PDF and JPG which is the final step in the script I get either a Bus error or a Segmentation fault error. The files do export and the console sits idle for a few seconds then I get the crash. It doesn't seem to give me anything else and I can't find a crash dump or core file anywhere on disk to examine.

 

The exact same input files on InDesign CS5.5 Desktop completing a very similar automation task via AppleScript work without an issue or error. I'm not certain if it's a problem with the way the InDesign files were put together, a version problem between a CS5.5 file and CS6, or something that I'm doing wrong in the script.

 

Is there a way to get InDesign Server to go into debug or verbose mode so that it will show more than just two word errors on crash?  I've read a few people talking here about the debug version but every path I've found to get access to the debug version runs into a roadblock with a bad link.

 

I would appreciate a point in the current right direction for how to debug these templates this script.

InDesign Server CC 2014 Trial - how to activate the tiral license

Hi everybody,

 

I just downloaded the trial of the InDesign Server CC 2014 for MacOS X but I do not find the correct command to activate the trial license.

I always get the following error: ERROR [server] Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit.

 

What shall I do to activate the trail?

Using pdf preset file in Indesign server

Hi,

Using pdf preset as a input file to generate pdf files using indesign server . It gives the error as per below

rrmsg=PDF error:Invalid value for parameter 'using' of method 'exportFile'. Expected PDFExportPreset, but received FALSE

 

pdf preset file used is as Adobe PDF Preset 1.joboptions

 

Any workaround to fix the above error msg ???

Clarification on InDesign Activation (trial)

so right now on my windows server which is 2008 r2 I have the following installed

I am trying to get InDesign CC Server 2014 trial activated and here is what I have done so far

So I got the error that it is not properly licensed so next I ran the command from the Adobe Manager Directory : adobe_prtk --tool=StartTrial --leid=V7{}InDesignServer-10-Win-GM

Now I got a successful StartTrial indicator, so I will go back and try again

I am confused at this point? I got the right return code for successful, but yet its not licensed properly?

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding this? or maybe I am missing something and doing something incorrectly somewhere?

Execute javascript on InDesign CC server 2014 with CORBA plugin.

I have installed InDesign CC server 2014 & wants to communicate with InDesign server via scripting.

I checked that we can pass script path with SOAP connection, but here I have to connect with CORBA to get support for LBQ component.

 

I am new to InDesign server scripting. So,comment/ask if you need any more info.
