IDML to PDF using Java API

Hi,

 

   I have created an IDML with template through the Indesign GUI and have created the respective XML files(story,designmap,etc) and able to make the changes in it and display that in the UI. This is fine, my requirement is to use the Java API to pass the .idml file (which holds the template) and creates a .PDF out of this. I am unable to get any source code samples for this, this should be done through Java API and no scripting is allowed. I went through the IDML spec, but doesn't have any source code samples for the requirement. Hence, please do provide the source code samples to achieve this using Java API. Expecting positive response...

ExtendScript Toolkit cannot launch InDesign CS6 Server

I have installed the trial version of InDesign Server CS6 on Windows 2008 and am trying to run scripts against it using the ExtendScript Toolkit, but it is not working. When I select "Adobe InDesign CS6 Server" from the drop-down list in the upper left, I get an alert box that says "Cannot launch target Adobe InDesign CS6 Server!". When expanding the details box it just repeats that same message.

 

I can start InDesign fine using either the command line or the windows service and it responds to requests. As far as I can see, it is just ExtendScript that is having problems with it.

 

I have combed through the event logs and can't find anything there indicating what the problem might be. I have also googled everything I can think of looking for a solution with no luck.

 

Has anyone else run into this? Any suggestions on a solution or at least where I might be able to track down a useful error message that says why it can't launch InDesign?

Cannot start Trial for InDesignServer

Hi!

 

This problem drives me nuts.

 

I have installed a fresh new version of Microsoft Server 2012.

I download the latest version of InDesign-Server for Windows.

I install Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition 3.1.

 

I use booth adobe_prtk.exe from the AAMEE and from the Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition with

 

adobe_prtk.exe --tool=StartTrial --leid=InDesignServer-CS6-Win-GM

 

I get this result

 

StartTrial Successful

Return Code = 0

 

But if i try to start InDesignServer, the console prompts

 

Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit. (On my machine the german translation of this error).

 

 

What I'm doing wrong?

 

The strange thing is... If I call

 

adobe_prtk.exe --tool=StartTrial --leid=FooBarFooBarFoo

 

the tool says also

 

StartTrial Successful

Return Code = 0

Script for Data merge InDesign CC server 2014

I am executing following script for data merge operation. Not generating any error, But neither it merge data from csv data source into new indd file.

InDesign Server (CS5.5 and CS6) CPU hog when no activity is happening.

Hi all,

 

Strange scenarios we are seeing in one of our production systems. When a .pdf if generated it works great. I see InDesign get hit and the .pdf renders quickly. Then about 10-15 seconds later when there is no activiity happening I see InDesign spike (and in the Event log I see 'executing javascript') and it takes that instance to full CPU for about 2-3 minutes then dies off. This is all without any additional commands or jobs being sent to it from the web server.

 

During the time that it is spiked out of course no other jobs can work with it until this process gets killed or dies off naturally. I've been trying to investigate to find out what is causing this but haven't seen a concrete answer.

 

Any ideas/thoughts from the community on this?

Hi everybody,

 

I just downloaded the trial of the InDesign Server CC 2014 for MacOS X but I do not find the correct command to activate the trial license.

I always get the following error: ERROR [server] Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit.

 

What shall I do to activate the trail?

Does anyone have a reasonable explanation as to why the imageTypeName, space, actualPpi, and effectivePpi properties of the Image object are "unsupported" under InDesign Server CS2?? They work SPLENDIDLY via javascript in the standalone InDesign CS2, but the same exact javascript running under InDesign Server gives me the unsupported exception. Arggg!!! It makes no sense! Can anyone tell me if these are supported in CS3?

IDML file to PDF taking around 5 minutes to process (CS6).

So our tool has the ability to process .IDML files to .jpg's or .pdf's. Normally all works well and I can get a preview and pdf render within seconds. Lately I have this 1 template that's super small (<275K) and although my preview processes fine when I have it process to return a .pdf file it takes around 5 minutes to do so!

 

I have other templates that are way larger and more complicated that render out pdf's in seconds but this specific one is really baffling me.

 

Checked the .idml and it looks ok. It was built with InDesign CC 2014 and exported out as an IDML file. Our server is InDesign CS6. Would that make a difference?

Numerous InDesign server crashes

We use InDesign Server CC 2014 (10.2.0.69) running on a Windows Server 2012 R2. We encounter a LOT of crashes and the crash reports refer mostly (99% of the events) to ntdll.dll as the faulting module, the other ones are MSVCR110.dll or StackHash.

What we tried: deactivate antivirus and running InDesign Server as Administrator. No luck.

 

Does it sound familiar to anyone?

Indesign cs6 didn't save my whole yesterday work

Hi all,

I'm using adobe indesign cs6 on Mac-OS X EL Capitan

I'm really in a big problem, I worked for 9 hours yesterday on my magazine file, and I closed it normally, after saving it.

 

today I'm opening the file, and it shows like I didn't even work yesterday.

when I open all my file, from the side bar , it shows like I didn't work on any indesign file.

PLEASEEEE HELP ME!

Indesign Server and display performance

We use indesign server (v4.0.2.625) to fill templates with content. In these template we set the display performance of the text boxes to typical display. When these templates are filled by indesign server with images in the text boxes and we open them with an indesign client the display performance setting says fast display instead of typical display. Can anyone tell me how to keep the display performance to typical display?

Overset text in Table of Contents

Indesign version = CS2
API = javascript

I'm having a problem getting overset text to appear in a TOC. I am passing true for the "includeOverset" param in the call document.createTOC() but the overset text does not appear. This is happening on both the CS2 desktop and CS2 server. If I open the generated document and re-generate the TOC then answer yes to the dialog asking wether or not to include overset text the missing text will appear.

Are there known issues with using the "includeOverset" when creating a TOC in the javascript API. Or are there other properties that I'm missing that need to be set.

Hi,

 

Where do PDF Preset files or joboptions files need to be stored for InDesign CS3 Server to "see" them. Would InDesign Server need to be restarted to pick up changes to the Presets?

Newbie: How to use InDesign with ASP.Net site?

I'm a total newbie with InDesign, and have been tasked with developing a sample ASP.Net mini app to figure out if we can use InDesign to replace Quark in an existing site.  Here are the details, and I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction to get this going.

 

I will have InDesign templates available with text and image placeholders (can be one or many of each).

I need to create an ASP.Net web application where:

- Users can select one of the available templates

- Enter their own text to plug into the text placeholders

- Upload their own images to plug into the image placeholders

- Preview the resulting document on the screen

- Click a button to generate a PDF version of this document and view/save it.

 

It sounds simple, and I'm sure it is, but I can't find detailed information on how to do it and, since I'm completely unfamiliar with InDesign, I'm a little lost.  I know ASP.Net, I just don't know where to start to use InDesign Server (or client, I don't know) from .Net code.

 

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and rewarded.

Getting unable to snap in error when trying to run indesign server as service

Hi,

 

I am trying to get the indesign server cs5 as a service to run at a particular port on 64bit windows vm platform. The documentation pointed towards trying to operate the .msc file in <installation_folder>/adobe/indesign x64/ folder.  However I am getting a snap-in error. I have tried installing it through mmc.exe, but fails with the same error. It is a trial version right now.

 

The error reads

"MMC could not create a snap in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly.

Name: IndesignServerService

 

CLSI ID:{xxxxxxxxxxxxx}

"

 

I have uninstalled, reinstalled and restarted many times.

Any info will be helpful. I am wondering if all the dlls have been registered correctly.
