Failed to export the JPEG file: Maximum size exceeded

$

When exporting a page to JPEG you might get the following error message:

"Failed to export the JPEG file: Maximum size exceeded. Try decreasing the resolution."

After some research I believe this maximum size for the resulting JPEG is set to 32767 pixels. This is the maximum value of a signed short.

Anyone can verify if this is correct?

Another similar error message you might get is:

"Failed to export the JPEG file: Not enough memory. Try decreasing the resolution."

I would like to know how this limit is calculated.

Test case:

InDesign document of 2000 mm x 2000 mm

    Export JPEG, format method 'BASELINE', dpi 416

          -> result preview of 32756 pixels     (2000 mm = 78,740157 inch * 416 dpi = 32756 pixels)

          => preview is exported

     Export JPEG, format method 'BASELINE', dpi 417

          -> "Failed to export the JPEG file: Maximum size exceeded. Try decreasing the resolution."

          => max size exceeded

     Export JPEG, format method 'PROGRESSIVE', dpi 416

          -> "Failed to export the JPEG file: Not enough memory. Try decreasing the resolution."

          => Within the max size boundaries, but not within the max memory boundaries. How is this calculated?

     Export JPEG, format method 'PROGRESSIVE', dpi 225

          -> "Failed to export the JPEG file: Not enough memory. Try decreasing the resolution."

          => Within the max size boundaries, but not within the max memory boundaries. How is this calculated?

     Export JPEG, format method 'PROGRESSIVE', dpi 224

          => preview is exported

Indesign Server CC Trial issues

The installation instructions states

You need to download Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition (APTEE) for using the InDesign Server trial

The download link only refers to CS6, CS5.5 & CS5 not CC

Since there is no Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition for CC I decided just to install and run the trial.

However I got the Adobe InDesign Server is not properly licensed and will now quit message.

According to the CC Release notes it says:

InDesign CC Server needs to be activated before it can be used. If the computer is online, activation is done automatically when you install. You need to provide your Adobe ID, and serial number when prompted by the installer. Unless the software is activated, you'll see an error, "Adobe InDesign Server’ is not properly licensed and will now quit."

My computer was online yet the it seems it didn't perfom the automatic activation as it suggests. When I entered my AdobeID credentials I did not get any errors saying it could not connect online.

So I had to do something and decided to use the Adobe Provisioning Toolkit Enterprise Edition for CS6.

This allowed me to get pass the licensing issue.

The next problem was I was getting DDE Server Window:InDesignServer.exe System Error popup. Telling me The program can't start because svml_dispmd.dll is missing from your computer.

So after browsing the net to see where I can get this missing svml_dispmd.dll I found this post http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/topic/285859

and decided to install what it suggested.

I still got the missing dll error so I copied it from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\Shared Libraries\redist\intel64\compiler into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC Server x64

Now it just sits there and hangs at the same spot

11/28/13 08:09:08 INFO  [javascript] Executing File: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC Server x64\Scripts\converturltohyperlink\ConvertURLToHyperlinkMenuItem.jsxbin

What the heck is going on here?

I have installed Indesign Server CC on another machine and although I did not get the missing dll problem it still however hangs at the same spot mentioned above.

Could someone from Adobe please help. The already I'm losing days with this trial and I will have little days left to test this product.

Hi

I'm running "Adobe InDesign Server CC 2014 trial" on Windows Server 2012 R2 (All 64 bit)

As I started Clover after running indesign server, I sent command via RESTful; but clover seems inactive to receive commands.

(I checked many times IOR and IDSQUEUE properties file, seems no mistakes.)

I can successfully run the same in my pc. Please find the attached screenshot of "Clover".

Could anyone help me to understand the issue / suggest a troubleshooting method.

Javascript - added images display as grey boxes

$

I am attempting to add an Image to an InDesign document via a javascript that I am executing via the RunScript() soap method of InDesign Cs4 server.  The script I am using to add an image is something similar to this:

var imageFile = File("//c/images/animage.pdf");
var imageGraphic = myDocument.pages.item(0).place(imageFile, null, imageLayer);
imageGraphic = imageGraphic[0];
var imageFrame = imageGraphic.parent;
imageFrame.geometricBounds = [IMAGE_TOP_Y, IMAGE_TOP_X, IMAGE_BOTTOM_Y, IMAGE_BOTTOM_X];
imageFrame.fit(FitOptions.proportionally);
imageFrame.fit(FitOptions.frameToContent);

The script adds the image correctly, but when I pull up the document with InDesign, the Images are displayed as grey boxes.  I am able to fix this within InDesign designer by manually setting the "Display Performance" to "High Quality" through the menus, but I need to handle this via the script run on the server.  I attempted to update the script to the following:

var imageFile = File("//c/images/animage.pdf");
var imageGraphic = myDocument.pages.item(0).place(imageFile, null, imageLayer);
imageGraphic = imageGraphic[0];
var imageFrame = imageGraphic.parent;
imageFrame.geometricBounds = [IMAGE_TOP_Y, IMAGE_TOP_X, IMAGE_BOTTOM_Y, IMAGE_BOTTOM_X];
imageFrame.fit(FitOptions.proportionally);
imageFrame.fit(FitOptions.frameToContent);

//HERE IS THE NEW LINE
imageFrame.localDisplaySetting = DisplaySettingOptions.HIGH_QUALITY;

This script runs without problems within the CS4 ExtendScript Toolkit on my local pc.  However, when I run the script against the InDesign CS4 server, I get the following error:

Error Number: 55
Error String: Object does not support the property or method 'localDisplaySetting'

Does anyone have any advice on how I should proceed?  My main goal is to have the image display correctly without the grey box.

Why can't I download Indesign CC? It keeps saying I have a server error.

I just purchased the cloud...I have been trying to download Indesign CC and everytime it asks me to login, I do as such, and then it tells me that an Unknown Server has occured. This has been going on for quite some time...is there something wrong with my compatibility? Is there a direct link that can be provided to download Indesign? And I am not talking about the trial. Is my fire wall blocking it or what? Because I have purchased the cloud and I feel like I'll be wasting my money if I can't even download anything. If there is another way to download the programs, can I do that without accessing the website?

InDesign Server doesn't recognize network paths

$

I have successfully installed and tested the InDesign Server. It is up and listening on port 800. Now I'm trying to run sampleclient commands into it with some javascripts.

Here is the line I'm passing to it via command line:

sampleclient -host 10.10.1.1:800 "C:\TEMP\script.jsx" arg0="C:\TEMP\file.indd" arg1="C:\TEMP\file.pdf"

This works.

Now I'm passing this:

sampleclient -host 10.10.1.1:800 "C:\temp\script.jsx" arg0="\\server\TEMP\file.indd" arg1="\\server\TEMP\file.pdf"

And it gives an error 48 - Cannot find a folder.

The server is visible from both machines and the path is the same.

I tried double slashes but that didn’t help either.

It just says: Cannot find the folder “\\server\folder\file.pdf”

What is odd is that file.pdf is not a folder so I’m not sure why it refers to is as “folder”.

Any ideas?

Is there a resource where InDesign Server and Scene7 features/capabilities would be compared? Or are those even comparable?

Not able to access local path for script file

Hi All,

I am integration my application (built in Asp.Net/Vb.Net) with InDesign Server CS4.

InDesignServer is installed on separte machine other than the machine on which application is running.

All of the scripts and indd files are placed on the machine (on which application is running):

When I send SOAP request to the InDesign Server from my application. I get following error:

"Cannot find the folder for the script "C:\ Path of the Script (.jsx)"

Please let me know how to manage this error.

It would be great if I get following doubts clerified:

1. Is it required to put network-path for the script files when InDesign Server is running on different machine and client machine is on other machine?

Kind Regards...

Prashant

Japanese Crop Marks on IDS output?

$

I am currently implementing an IDS solution in Tokyo. Japanese crop marks are required by my client to be on all outputs, laser printed and X1A PDFs. My solution works fine in InDesign workstation, marks are what they should be. However in IDS I get north american crop marks and the layout name slug is unprintable because it includes Japanese characters. I was told there is no Pacific rim version of IDS, but there appear to be one for InDesign. The menu for Japanese Crop marks is visible in the Japanese localized machines I work with but not in the north american machines, Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

InDesign Server :line 13: 2753 Bus error "$installed_name" "$@"

[InDesign Server CS4, CS5, CS5.5    line 13: 2753 Bus error "$installed_name" "$@"]

We support a few clients on various version of InDesign Server and all have exactly the same issue upon having the application produce PDF files...   line 13: 2753 Bus error "$installed_name" "$@"   which causes InDesign Server to unexpectedly quit.

Searching these forums we have found CS3 instances of this error message pointing to fonts not loaded on the machine running InDesign Server, but no "this is what we did to fix it" solution has been found.

Our customers are running beefed up MacPros or Mac Minis with Mac OS 10.6 (non server) and OS 10.7 (server), 8GB - 16GB RAM, 1TB HD

For font management we have the following being utilized:

- Universal type server

  - if no plugin exists for InD Server, not sure how much this app will help manage fonts

- Suitcase Server

- if no plugin exists for InD Server, not sure how much this app will help manage fonts

- Loading all fonts into:   /Users/*/Library/Fonts

  - seems to be the best option for font management on a system running InDesign Server

Our company develops a plugin for InDesign Server and allows regular InDesign to produce the pdfs in a similar manner.  Running our plugin under regular InDesign we DO NOT have these issues of BUS errors, yet as soon as any of our customers utilize InDesign Server, they all immediately see BUS errors.

We have written a shell script that quits (normally) indesign server, and relaunches it (if quit abnormally) so that we have some semblance of an "always on" InDesign Server application, but this is merely a band-aid fix for a bigger problem.

We are pointing the finger at Adobe InDesign Server being the problem here, yet our customers do not care where the blame is placed, we are seeing a solution for them in any fashion that presents a permanent solution.

Troubles importing formatting from xlsx

$

Hi, everyone!

Having troubles importing xlsx with formatting in InDesign Server. Whole file imported as unformatted table.

Sample code using for setting preferences:

var excelPref = application.ExcelImportPreferences;

excelPref.PreserveGraphics = true;

excelPref.TableFormatting = idTableFormattingOptions.idExcelFormattedTable;

excelPref.UseTypographersQuotes = true;

Then I just use frame.Place() for importing file.

Saving file as xls resolves the issue, but it's not an option for my project.

Another thing is that desktop InDesign imports formatting just fine.

I've looked through documentation and haven't found anything except ExcelImportPreferences. Maybe there's some poperty that I missed or there's another way for importing files?

Appriciate any help!

Return code 6 when trying to activate trial of InDesignCC Server 2014

Hi!

InDesign Server CS6 (MacOS) - JavaScripting & Troubleshooting "Bus error" or "Segmentation fault"

$

I'm attempting to convert a workflow from InDesign CS5.5 Desktop with AppleScript to InDesign Server CS6 with JavaScript. It seems most of our templates work fine but every now and then I run into one that seems to work properly but right after we export to PDF and JPG which is the final step in the script I get either a Bus error or a Segmentation fault error. The files do export and the console sits idle for a few seconds then I get the crash. It doesn't seem to give me anything else and I can't find a crash dump or core file anywhere on disk to examine.

The exact same input files on InDesign CS5.5 Desktop completing a very similar automation task via AppleScript work without an issue or error. I'm not certain if it's a problem with the way the InDesign files were put together, a version problem between a CS5.5 file and CS6, or something that I'm doing wrong in the script.

Is there a way to get InDesign Server to go into debug or verbose mode so that it will show more than just two word errors on crash?  I've read a few people talking here about the debug version but every path I've found to get access to the debug version runs into a roadblock with a bad link.

I would appreciate a point in the current right direction for how to debug these templates this script.

Hi,

I have an InDesign Server with 8 ports running in one Windows Server. Currently, I have assigned 4 ports for UK client, and 4 ports for US client. Now, I need to configure both UK and US dictionaries in the same InDesign Server however 4 UK ports needs to use UK Dictionary, and 4 US ports needs to use US Dictionary.

Please advise how to achieve this.

Export data from Indesign to Mysql

I have an indesign file. I can open the indesign file in adobe in design. This can export the full xml for the created indesign.

Now what i need is from Indesign i need to export contents directly to my sql database by giving field mapping for title description.

Do we have any plugin in indesign to map the tables and insert it directly from indesign.

Can we insert images in this format from the indesign file. Which format will the image be sorted image.

Physical image file will be copied and path can be modified or these images are copied as bits in database.

Do we have to have the same image location shared as indesign files and images will be on a different server and the website which is working on database will be on a different server.
