I can run it correctly on ASP.NET development server, but it will occurred  error on IIS6 .

Is the permission problem? How to solve it ?

I am trying to get the indesign server cs5 as a service to run at a particular port on 64bit windows vm platform. The documentation pointed towards trying to operate the .msc file in <installation_folder>/adobe/indesign x64/ folder.  However I am getting a snap-in error. I have tried installing it through mmc.exe, but fails with the same error. It is a trial version right now.

The error reads

"MMC could not create a snap in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly.

Name: IndesignServerService

CLSI ID:{xxxxxxxxxxxxx}

"

I have uninstalled, reinstalled and restarted many times.

Any info will be helpful. I am wondering if all the dlls have been registered correctly.

Hi,

I was trying to export PNG using java api. I say that it has an export parameter kExportFormatPNGFormat.

But Everytime i tried use it,  an error was returned by In Design Server:

"Error code = 90.934", "The specified object does not support the desired export format.."

What´s the correct way to use this option?

When trying to access properties of a hyperlink it causes InDesign to crash. I can assign properties of the hyperlink but if I try and retrieve properties it hangs and crashes resulting in the error below. I'm using InDesign Server 64bit version 7.0.4.553. What's interesting is this works completely fine when testing using InDesign CS5 client version.

I have used Extend script toolkit to try and debug the issue but you can't even use the databrowser to look at the hyperlink properties as it'll crash there as well. But if I debug using toolkit with client version of InDesign it works fine. It really seems like an issue with InDesign Server and I'm not sure what I can do to work around/fix this problem.

I working a project that we receive artwork(idml file + fonts) and we have to generate pdf files.

I need to "load" and "unload" fonts from indesign context. Right now I´m copying them (to indesign´s font´s folder) before  pdfs´ generation, but when i need to remove it, I can´t.. Indesign locked it.

It´s there anyway to release this fonts?  Is It possible to load it from another folder besides "indesign fonts´folder"

I need the very simple functionality in my application to convert an idml file to image. I will have access to InDesign Server through SOAP but am having trouble understanding the process for actually doing this.

I have not used SOAP services in forever, and even then only for a few simple things so can someone explain the process to me?

From digging through the dozens of scattered pdfs it seems like the process has something to do with passing a javascript script to the server which will then execute against the InDesign API.

1. Is this summation correct?
2. How is the idml file itself passed to the server?
3. I can't find an actual Api anywhere. How do I 'export idml to tiff' for example?

I have an indesign document of a newspaper page (1 spread + 1 page) with some articles (title, body, img, img caption) and ads (img). I need to parse this and create an XML file from which data can be stored into a mysql db. The db handling is already programmed.

The xml file will have this structure (page = root):

The .indd file is created using the Smart Layout plugin from WoodWing software. When trying to print the "TextFrames>Texts>contents" the textframes that use the smart layout plugin do not show, they seem to be not included in the data model of the app. That's why I went another route, and parsed "Stories>Texts>contents". I can get all the text objects of the page, including the articles that are created using the smart layout plugin. Among these objects are article title's and article bodies. The problem is I don't know which title belongs to which body, so I can't create a new article node in the XML. I have exported the orignal file as IDML and browsed the spread and the stories, but I see no way to link article titles (textframe), article bodies (textframe) and images (contained by rectangles) together.

Is there a way to solve this?

We are running multiple instances of Indesign server service. But for all the instances Logs are coming into single file. Is it possible to separe the logs for each instance of server.

in the last weeks we have a big problem with InDesignServer CS3 (Ver 5.0.5.697). From time to time one of the running instances crashes with a weird error message in the windows event log. It consists of the following three entries:

1. Message: [Server] D [8764] [20082]  (8764 is the process id, 20082 the port. But what does the D tell me)

2. Message: [Server] Adobe InDesign wird beendet. Es wurde ein schwerwiegender Fehler festgestellt. Starten Sie InDesign erneut, um InDesign-Dokumente wiederherzustellen, die nicht gespeichert wurden. [8764] [20082]

(German version, it says, that InDesign will be closed because of a fatal error.

3. Message: Fehlerhafte Anwendung InDesignServer.exe, Version 5.0.5.697, Zeitstempel 0x49a4cf58, fehlerhaftes Modul Public.dll, Version 5.0.5.697, Zeitstempel 0x49a4ce0b, Ausnahmecode 0xc0000005, Fehleroffset 0x0002e1fa, Prozess-ID 0x223c, Anwendungsstartzeit 01cd34df392c8230.

We have no clue, what this is all about. The instances recover by themselfes after a while, but some of the jobs which are send to it throw errors. The Scripts we sent to the instance right before the crash runs without a problem after the restart.

Can anyone help?

I have a script that correctly places images in tagged rectangles via script in InDesign, the script then exports to PDF. All is well.

When I run the same script with the same image path folder structure in InDesignServer, the exported PDF does not show the 'placed' images. I'm getting no errors in my console.

Early in the script I have;

myInDesign.imagePreview = True

I place the images with;

myRectangle.Place myFile, False

myRectangle.fit 1668247152

myRectangle.fit 1667591779

for each myItem in myRectangle.items

     myItem.itemLink.unlink

next

I've tried it with and without the .unlink code (an attempt to force embedding of the images)

In all other aspects the script works the same on ID as IDS. I'm starting my ID CS6 server with InDesignServer -previews

I suspect I'm missing something with the PDF export preferences, but have no idea why it's working on ID and not on IDS.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have an InDesign Server CS5.5.I have a shell script that waits for xml files to be placed into a certain directory on the server. When it sees a file in the folder it launches an applescript that controls InDesign Server. I need to know how to specify the -preview option for the InDesign Server binary so the files generated by the server will have previews when they are opened in InDesign client. The apple scripts look like this:

Where/how would I specify the -preview option. I see nothing referring to the -preview option in the Library for indesign.

I want to step through ExtendScript running inside InDesign Server (not CC).

Following the documentation for multi-instance support the application, running as a web service under IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2, is failing to access the object. For a single instance I use CreateObject("InDesignServer.Application")but as document for multiple instances I useGetObject(“myIDS1”)(where I have an instance of InDesign Server CC running with parameter “indesignserver -configuration myIDS1”. I have tried running the instance both from command line, elevated command line, and from the InDesignServerService). It is acting as though it does not recognise the instance name, but then I don't really understand how it would. Any ideas appreciated.

So I suppose all I have to do is copy the content in the Applications folder.

I've tried the example (with other ports) from the sdk with no success:

The port isn't showing when I list the ports using lsof.

When I use LBQ the same things occurs. We start the server with:

When sending a REST call with KillInstance pointing to the ior file the same error occur as when calling the port through curl:

Indesign Server CS6 ver 8.0

I'm attempting to convert a workflow from InDesign CS5.5 Desktop with AppleScript to InDesign Server CS6 with JavaScript. It seems most of our templates work fine but every now and then I run into one that seems to work properly but right after we export to PDF and JPG which is the final step in the script I get either a Bus error or a Segmentation fault error. The files do export and the console sits idle for a few seconds then I get the crash. It doesn't seem to give me anything else and I can't find a crash dump or core file anywhere on disk to examine.

The exact same input files on InDesign CS5.5 Desktop completing a very similar automation task via AppleScript work without an issue or error. I'm not certain if it's a problem with the way the InDesign files were put together, a version problem between a CS5.5 file and CS6, or something that I'm doing wrong in the script.

Is there a way to get InDesign Server to go into debug or verbose mode so that it will show more than just two word errors on crash?  I've read a few people talking here about the debug version but every path I've found to get access to the debug version runs into a roadblock with a bad link.

I would appreciate a point in the current right direction for how to debug these templates this script.

My corporate network has a windows server system with InDesign CC 2014 server software installed on it. My users however are now being pushed into the InDesign CC 2015 application. Would there be anyway possible to have InDesign CC 2014 server read and accept a InDesign CC 2015 package? Or... will my users need to downgrade back to InDesign CC 2014 Application? I am generating Indd file using ImportXML() method provided by InDesign. I am getting following error randomly (sometimes more often):
