I am currently implementing an IDS solution in Tokyo. Japanese crop marks are required by my client to be on all outputs, laser printed and X1A PDFs. My solution works fine in InDesign workstation, marks are what they should be. However in IDS I get north american crop marks and the layout name slug is unprintable because it includes Japanese characters. I was told there is no Pacific rim version of IDS, but there appear to be one for InDesign. The menu for Japanese Crop marks is visible in the Japanese localized machines I work with but not in the north american machines, Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

SOAP FAULT: SOAP-ENV:Client
Hi all,
I'm trying to get the Adobe InDesign Server to work, but having no experience with SOAP I'm running into a few problems.
After I make sure that the server is running I use the testclient to try HelloWorld.jsx
"testclient HelloWorls.jsx"
When executing this I get the following errors:

"Unknown error"
Detail: TCP connect failed in tcp_connect()

Any ideas on how I can solve this? A few google searches about this problem gave me no relief...

C# app throws error when connecting to indesign server
It throws this exception:
Invalid syntax (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800401E4 (MK_E_SYNTAX))
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.MkParseDisplayName(IBindCtx pbc, String szUserName, UInt32& pchEaten, IMoniker& ppmk)
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.BindToMoniker(String monikerName)
Caused by this line:
InDesignServer.Application app = (InDesignServer.Application)(System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.BindToMoniker("config uration_noport"));
The server is successfully running with the no configuration parameters therefore the configuration name by default should be "configuration_noport".
Any idea why it's throwing this error? This is a C# 4.0 console application connecting to Indesign Server CS 5 (7.0).

Failed to export the JPEG file: Maximum size exceeded
When exporting a page to JPEG you might get the following error message:
"Failed to export the JPEG file: Maximum size exceeded. Try decreasing the resolution."
After some research I believe this maximum size for the resulting JPEG is set to 32767 pixels. This is the maximum value of a signed short.
Anyone can verify if this is correct?
Another similar error message you might get is:
"Failed to export the JPEG file: Not enough memory. Try decreasing the resolution."
I would like to know how this limit is calculated.
Test case:
InDesign document of 2000 mm x 2000 mm
Export JPEG, format method 'BASELINE', dpi 416
-> result preview of 32756 pixels (2000 mm = 78,740157 inch * 416 dpi = 32756 pixels)
=> preview is exported
Export JPEG, format method 'BASELINE', dpi 417

A question was asked recently regarding XMP in InDesign Server under a different message...
"I have one more doubt how to create XMP file,hwo to send my information to xmp file,and how to use the xmp in indesign server"
There is a sample script in the InDesign Server SDK demonstrating the use of XMP in an InDesign file. The script is located at: <SDK>/scripting/InDesign CS3 Server Scripting/Sample Scripts/JavaScript/MetadataExample.jsx

Indesign CS3 Server, .Net and cyrillic
I'am trying to develope a Silverligt Interface for Indesign Setrver and using SOAP as a protocol between IDS and .NET. Everyting works fine (even German Umlatus) until i try to send a cyrillic text.
One example:
I'am sending "абвгд" and IDS creates text with content "01234".
I thought .Net sends the content incorrect, that'swhy i opened the SOAP Envelope - the text was correct. I wrote "абвгд" inside the .jsx-file which create a PDF file - IDS created correct again.
Maybe there is anybody, who had the same problem a can help me.

I try to use the Java API to drive an InDesign Server CS3.<br />I have set up Windows Services for two InDesign Server instances, both using diffenrent prots and different IOR Files.<br /><br />When I try to connect the Adobe Java SampleClient (from teh SDK. populate an Indesign template from DB and convert it to PDF on a spot!!!

Is there a way to populate an Indesign template file (which is stored in a server) with a data that comes from a database, then it converts it to PDF on a spot by clicking a link on a website?
Ive been doing some research. I found a plug-in for Indesign called easycatalog which enables indesign to get data from a database. But what im trying to do is to have a link on a website where people can view a pdf file, but once clicked, the pdf is updated on a spot.
I found also something called fdf that get data from databse to a pdf file. But I don't know which fits better for my problem.
Please help!!!!

Searching in indd documents...

I don't know if it's a bug but when I open a document with the InDesign Server CS3, create a text frame with some content and then try to search for it, nothing is found. I need to save the document first and then repeat the search to find something that is contained by the created text frame. I think with the InDesign Server CS2 it was possible to search for new content without saving the document first...

How can I get command-line flags list of InDesign Server?
Actually the situation is testclient doesn't work.
I installed InDesign Server and SDK.
I run InDesignServer.com then I use something like this "testclient -server t.js".
Server and client runs on same comp.
As result I have this exception:

Exporting an .indd file to PostScript
Using the CS3 Server CORBA API, is there a way to export an InDesign file to PostScript? I see examples in the SDK snippets foloder to export to EPS and PDF, but not to PostScript.

IDS on WinServer 2008 Location of joboptions files
I am attempting to find where to put my joboption file on Windows Server 2008. Indesign Desktop is not installed on this server, nor can it be. I tried
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
The job option file I am attempting to use is: PDFX1a 2001.joboptions
but my javascript that works locally does not on the server. My function call is:
mydoc.exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, File(file), app.pdfExportPresets.item("[PDF/X-1a:2001]"));
but that results in an error as the item is not found.
Any help would be appreciated.

importxml does not retain image
hi
I have one indesing document in that I have place one rectangle frame control and place one image on it and then export xml of that document.
and save document.
now I am chnaging image in exported xml file.
and wirte bellow script to inport and save document with some other name.
But when I open that new document in indesign desktop it is not displaying image
image displays properly in exported jpeg file.
I have chacked tag property in that it displays new image path. but image is displayed in page.

InDesign Server fonts are locked even after document closed
Hi!
We get "file in use" messages from windows, after installing latest InDServer update.
We create packages from open documents, on the server, then we close the documents.
After that a piece of code is to move the package to another location. This "move" fails now, after installing the update called 7.0.3.533.
That upgrade was also called: Adobe InDesign Server CS5 Release Update 7.0.3 WIN

Is this a known error? What can be done?
The InDesign documents are using "document fonts", that is these fonts should be local to the document.
We also could find no specification of the changes implemented in 7.0.3.533.
